الملخص الإنجليزي
The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of using group work on tenth graders' oral proficiency in Amman Fourth Directorate of Education.
The population was the students of Amman forth Directorate of Education .
The sample of the study consisted of (72) male tenth graders at Al-Sharief Hussein Secondary School during the first semester 2006/2007.
To ensure the test Reliability , the researcher chose a pilot sample of the population and conducted the interview test two weeks later.
He conducted the interview test to the same sample then found the correlations of the students between the two tests which was (86.8%).The researcher used descriptive statistics (Means and Standard deviation ) to describe the students' responses .
Moreover, ANCOVA test was used to test if there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group after treatments on the Four dimensions of oral proficiency; comprehension, grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary .The results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and conventional groups' oral proficiency at ( a = 0.05) in favor of the experimental group.
The results also showed that there was an influence of the group work on the four dimensions: comprehension, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary as the following: first, the results showed that there was a statistically significant difference, between the experimental and the conventional groups comprehension dimension at (a=0.05) in favor of the experimental group.
Second, the results showed that there was statistically significant difference between the experimental and the conventional group of grammar dimension at ( a = 0.05) in favor of the experimental group.
Third , the results showed that there was statistically significant difference between the experimental and the conventional group pronunciation dimension at ( a = 0.05) in favor of the experimental group.
Forth, the results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the experimental and conventional group of vocabulary dimension at ( a = 0.05) in favor of the experimental group.
In light of the results of the study, several recommendations have been presented among which are the following; it is necessary to apply group work in English as Foreign Language classrooms.
In addition, EFL teachers should pay much attention to oral proficiency in classrooms and encourage their students to practice it.
Furthermore, the researcher recommended that other researcher to conduct further studies on group work effects and oral proficiency on different samples and classes.
