A picanol loom (4 president) was used to determine the actual electric power to produce fabric.

The actual power used by the sley, shedding and picking mechanisms of the loom, was determined.

A computerized two – wattmeter was used to measure the power consumption of each of the three basic weaving mechanisms.

The effect of the loom speed on the actual power used to produce the fabric was also determined.

It was found that nearly 23% of the total power consumption was used to produce the fabric while 77% of the power was dissipated as frictional and thermal losses.
