MTNDO-Forces calculations with complete geometry optimization have been performed on relative stability 2-methyl -1-butene system, 2-methyl -2-butene, and X-substituted 2-methyl -1-butene and 2-methyl -2-butene (X = F, NH2, CH3 > CN, CF3,N02andCH0).

The results were compared with previous work on butanone and enol counterpart.

It was found that 2-methyl -2-butene is more stable than 2-methyl -1-butene by 6.490 kcal / mol, which agrees with the theoretical calculations.

All substituents (F, NH2 > CH3, CN, CF}, N02 and CHO) cause changes in geometrical parameters, especially at where the substituents are attached.

The substituents F, NH2 and CH3 behave as electron releasing while CN, CF3, N02 and CHO act as electron withdrawing groups.

Calculations of entropy and Gibbs free energy show that all substituent decrease the stability of 2-methyl -1-butene.

This is confirmed by isoseismic reactions and electron distribution.
