This study is a new addition to the educational research which focuses on the role of perceptual and environmental learning styles on foreign language achievement.

Additionally, the study assists instructors to identify their students' preferred learning styles that can affect their achievement.

Furthermore, no study up to now has been conducted in Oman which investigated the relationship between the perceptual and environmental learning styles on the achievement of EFL at the tertiary level.

Descriptive statistics showed that: (1) the most preferred perceptual learning styles for the freshmen in the Colleges of Applied Sciences in Nizwa, Sohar, and Ibri was as follows: the auditory style (20.6), tactile style (20.3), kinesthetic style (18.91) and visual (18.42).

(2) Regarding environmental learning styles, the Omani learners in this study showed preferences towards informal surroundings, clean environment, early morning, calm light, informal dress, calm sound, warm temperature, and a "pencil" as a preferred tool while learning.

(3)The findings also revealed that there was no statistically significant correlation between perceptual learning styles and achievement.

(4) There was no statistical correlation between environmental learning styles and achievement.

(5) Finally, statistics also showed that there are differences between preferences of males and females regarding auditory and tactile styles.

Females were found to be more auditory and tactile than males.

Additionally, both showed similar preferences for kinesthetic and visual styles.

On the basis of these findings, some recommendations have been made.
