الملخص الإنجليزي

The primary purpose of this study is to explore the role of language in face-to-face interactions between police officers and suspects or criminals.

To this end, five investigations out of fifty investigations were analyzed using Austin (1962) Speech Act Theory and Grice’s (1975).

Maxims the logic of conversation There is no doubt that the results of this study appeared ; First: The negative result of not using the proper techniques of confession, as an example of that, the decision returned back by Cassation Court to the supreme Criminal Court (Murder Case).

Second : the results of this study highlight the advantages of using Grice’s Maxims in police communication.

It is clear that violating one of these Maxims such as the Quality Maxim, in fact, resulted in lack of adequate evidence.

Third : using Austin’s (1962) Speech Act Theory and it is off shoot (searl, 1969) was very fruitful in analyzing Adjacency pairs such as questions-answers or invitation-acceptance or decline.

Fourth : previous international investigations in police communication with suspects can help police investigators in determining whether the suspect is guilty or innocent like Coulthard and Labov cases look chapter two Recommended by the study to have knowledge of the proper techniques especially face-to-face interaction at Jordanian Public Security Directorate Stations
