الملخص الإنجليزي

The planning and organization of forests regarded of important topics that make the natural and artificial forests a managed projects that can ensure through management and harvesting plans the benefit of the forest and future generations of hand and the benefit of society on the other hand, also all types of forests that had many duties including productivity, tourism, preventive and environmental, should be subject to management plans and harvesting scheme, but the difference is in the method used in the process of harvesting with different types of forests.

The duties performed by the artificial forests in the most productive times to be any the main purpose of its establishment is to satisfy the growing demand for wood as a result of the various uses of wood, especially at the present time.

The sources and studies have suggested that forests are economical projects that can bring revenue to contribute in supporting the economic aspects, but the high cost of harvesting operations and harvesting methods is not optimal in most cases, lead to lower revenue of forest, especially when we use the non-correct technologies in harvesting operations, so it is important to develop appropriate plans for harvesting, especially those that lead to reduce costs and increase revenue.

As the economic aspect plays an important role in making correct and appropriate decisions to deal with projects, especially the long term ones such as forestry projects.

That the lands in Iraq generally and in Kurdistan particularly is non-exploited with large area, which calls to be the territory similar to the forest and can achieve many benefits in the future, including the benefits of productivity, but we must choose the optimum way to manage and harvest.

Hence, the study was conducted on the types of artificial stands located in Erbil / Kurdistan Region for poplar and eucalyptus to determine the best technical methods for harvesting, as a guide to the timber lands in the region and the surrounding areas and other evidence of projects and new harvesting in such future directions.

The current study has summarized using two methods in dealing with harvesting operations for poplar stand in Shalala and eucalyptus stand in Khabat (Aski–Kalak) by adopting the economic and financial criteria on the basis that the harvesting operations approval based first and foremost on the main aspects of the economic, therefore its criteria used to determine the best time periods for harvesting, considering the criteria of economic and financial that been used to determine the best time periods for harvesting and cut the trees in stands, including the criteria of net present value for the different ages and types of trees.

It has appeared that the best age can achieve the highest net present value for poplar was at 6 years and for eucalyptus at 11 years.

Also a test was conducted for the best harvesting process by cutting trees based on the biggest diameters after the rotation to know and ensure the decision undertake for the application of the specific harvesting technique.

This was confirmed by achieving the total harvesting of diameters that reaching to (13) cm for poplar and more and to (25) cm for the eucalyptus and more which regarded as the best technique can be used with these stands to achieving a high net present value calculated to the poplar which was (12.65) million Iraq I dinars and a (5.87) million Iraqi dinars for the eucalyptus, which is better than the use of selective cutting technique for other ages with diameters less than the trees at rotation age for both types of trees.

Also other technical method was used by the adoption of the criterion bare land value (BLV) and its application for stands of both poplar and eucalyptus which proved that this criterion were reached its highest value in poplar which was (25.5) million Iraqi dinars at the age of (6) years and (8.8) million Iraqi dinars for eucalyptus at the age of (9) years.

It also has been tested the delay in the operations of the regeneration on the harvesting of these stands as a result of the need to period time among the rotation of the production and last.

It was found that the value of BLV reached to (9.2) million Iraqi dinars for poplar trees and (2.4) million Iraqi dinars for eucalyptus trees, this loss in the value of BLV lead to the achievement of some of the losses resulting from the delay in the re-planting stands, which gives an indication of dealing with the topic by the relevant authorities and owners in order these stands achieve best returns in the future.
