الملخص الإنجليزي

The pollution of soil and water with xenobiotic creating major health problems, so the biodegradation is the natural way to getting rid of wastes by organisms.

Linear alkyl benzene sulfonates is a widely applied anionic surfactants and it's used in domestic as well as industrial detergent.

This study aimed to isolate bacteria from soil irrigated by with waste water in AL-Kherbeh AL-Smrah, Jordan and test their ability to degrade LAS at high concentration.

From all isolates only Burkholderia pseudo mallei is able to degrading LAS at high concentration 100 ppm and more.

The growth conditions were optimized (pH, shaking rate, temperature, carbon starvation and LAS adaptation).

Moreover the effect of carbon and nitrogen sources on the LAS biodegradation rate was investigated.

The growth curves for the bacteria in two different medium (nutrient broth and minimal media) in presence and absence of LAS were estimated by measuring viable account and OD6oo as a function of time and mathematically were modeled.

The growth at NB fitted to Riccati and Voltera models, the results clarify that LAS is less toxic, on the other hand the growth in LAS-free M9 minimal media was fitted to the Riccai model while the growth in M9 plus LAS fitted to both Riccati and Voltera models.

The results of growing B.

pseudo mallei with different LAS concentrations as sole carbon and energy source showed that in the presence of LAS, the experimental data were fitted to three specific growth models (Monod, Andrews and Tessier) all the models can fit these data and Andrews model better fit.

The results showed that the optimum conditions for temperature, pH & aeration were 30°C, 6.5 and 250 rpm, respectively.

All the carbon sources being tested caused an enhancement in the degradation rate (ppm / h) with increase order of fructose, glucose=maltose=sucrose and succinic acid.

Contrary to carbon sources all nitrogen sources except yeast extract caused a more than 50 % repression in the LAS degradation rate.
