الملخص الإنجليزي

The calixarenes are phenolic metacyclophanes annulated by single methylene groups.

They are ideal starting materials for the synthesis of various derivatives of host molecules and can also act as building blocks for the construction of larger molecules with very useful complication properties.

Calixarenes and their functionalized derivatives show novel recognition ability for metal ions, anions and organic molecules.

One such derivative of calix [4] arenas is calix [4] crown ethers in which the donor atoms are oxygen atoms.

It was found that these crown derivatives mainly complex alkali or alkaline earth metal ions.

In the present work, three new calix [4] thiacrown ethers 20, 21 and 22 were synthesized, in order to enhance the selectivity of calix [4] arenes towards transition metal cations by incorporating softer sulfur atom into the tether.
