الملخص الإنجليزي

The serum levels of 4 biochemical markers Creative kinase (CK), is enzyme CK-MB, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs CRP), cardiac Troponin I (catnip) and homocysteine (tHcy) as independent cardiac risk factor were investigated in 103 Jordanian patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and 75 controls.

The ACS patients were subdivided further into ST elevation MI based on ECG ST elevation (STEMI), none ST elevation (NSTEMI) based on elevated cardiac markers and absence of ST elevation, Unstable Angina (UA) based on normal cardiac markers and absence of ST elevation.

The markers catnip and hs CRP were most effective in differentiating ACS patients from the controls by showing significantly high levels.

However, all five markers were useful in discriminating patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) that included both STEMI and NSTEMI subgroups.

The CK-MB and hs CRP (at threshold level of 3mg / L) proved to be selective in the diagnosis of patients with UA.

Moreover, the four markers CK-MB, hs CRP, CK and catnip provided good expression for the severity of the disease by showing higher elevation in STEMI more than any other ACS subgroup.

A preliminary follow up study of ACS patients was conducted for 180 days indicated that the changes in levels of above four markers are particularly correlated well with the disease prognosis.

Some risk factors like body mass index as well as family history and to certain extent inactivity were more implicated in ACS patients than control individuals.

These factors may add further burden to already existing risk factors in patients potentially susceptible for developing ACS.
