Seruchawa dam is an earth fill structure lies Rinia city that located north of Iraq it controls a catchment area of 4.7 Km2.

To evaluate the characteristic parameter that effect on this structure should survey the basin and noted borders of catchment area then analysis it component to known the particle size distribution.

An 8-hr rainfall storm was monitored and a rating curve for Seruchawa valley was obtained .

Sediment sampling was carried out in order to find out with a sediment rating curve for the catchment.

Then calculating the suspended sediment by applying the direct method and Enguland Hanson formula -Sampling at the downstream of the dam was not possible because the dam distrbution A flood routing technique was conducted to compute the outflow discharge through the dam which was related to the sediment discharge.

The (HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS) programs was applied in order obtain a rating curve for main flow in Seruchawa valley, The measured sediment discharge rate through the reservoir ranged from 0.0002 m3 / sec (dry period) to 0.002 m3/sec (wet period) , which is considered a large quantity related to reservoir storage capacity , that will decrease the lifetime of the reservoir which is approximately 25 years.
