-The main objective of this work is to propose Artificial Intelligence (AI) controllers to enhance the performance of Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) and speed-governor of a Synchronous Generator (SG) during different loading conditions.

The simulated system is implemented using a proposed mathematical model of the three phase salient pole SG with saturation nonlinearities.

The SG is connected to different loads (light, medium, full and over load) in two ways; first, each load is connected individually.

Second, the SG loads change from light to over load during operation to ensure the robustness of the controller for wide load variations.

The controllers of AVR and speed-governor are designed individually and then prove the negligible cross coupling between AVR and speed-governor.

Propose a modified algorithm for optimal Membership Functions (MFs) tuning of the Fuzzy Logic (FL) controller using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO).

Three types of controllers are used in this work.

The first controller is the Proportional-Integral (PI) based on PSO technique for optimal gains tuning to improve the performance of the system as compared with PI controller which is based on classical trial and error method.

The results prove the improvement of PI-PSO performance on classical PI-controller for both AVR and speed-governor.

The second controller is the Nonlinear Autoregressive- Moving Average (NARMA-L2) which improves the performance of the system compared with PI-PSO for both AVR and speed-governor.

The third controller is Fuzzy PD+I with gains and MFs tuned by PSO technique.

Using two AI techniques (Fuzzy logic and PSO) and using PSO for gains and MFs tuning make Fuzzy PD+I controller superior on NARMA-L2 controller for both AVR and speed-governor.
