الملخص الإنجليزي

The study uses the application of remote sensing and geographic information system GIS techniques, to study the highly concentrated ions in the groundwater of Dibdiba aquifer of the southern west part of Basrah governorate.

The study includes ; 1- Study the climatological elements of the area, to collects the recharge to the Dibdiba aquifer by calculate the rate of water surplus (WS).

2- Correlated between the higher concentration ions (cations, an ions), of 12 water wells which arc tested in this study and water of 75 wells which tested on 1987, and 212 water wells of data bank of Military Survey which tested through 1989 to 1998, by using GIS application to draw maps of concentration ions, to define and update the changes of concentrations zones.

Application a simple method of ArcGIS program for help hydrological information to store and display and update the data of all wells of study area and any other location.

The study uses the corrected Landsat color composite image (visible waveband), resolution 14 and 30 meter and the map of Basrah, scale 1:100000, for area of study, with overlay coordinates net to create three dimensional image.

The 3D model is built by using the method of topographic data which use many x, y, z coordinates, for different sites of the area of study.

Digital elevation model DEM is the image of elevation values of area which are collected from the contour lines of the map of the From 3D image model can find the general slope of the ground features and calculate the quantities of sediments which come from the different physical and chemical factors of weathering Also from the supervised classification can define the different classes of the ground of the area, and draw the land used maps to find the relation between these feature and the higher concentration ions in groundwater of the area.

The study concludes that the most important reasons for the higher concentration of ions of groundwater come from the rain fall water and geomorphological features which present in the area and surround the area of study.
