Surface roughness and tolerances among the most critical quality measures in many mechanical products.

Surfaces of a mechanical product can be created with a number of namufactunng processes, This applies the factorial experimentation approach to study the impact of turning parameters, namely; feed, cutting speed, tool nose radius, depth of cut and material hardness, on the roughness of turned surfaces of high carton tool steels having hardness values above 50 HRC.

The use of the cube analysis makes i, easy to compare me effect 0{each from grams interactions.

Regression Analysis is used to examine the impact of turning factors and factor interactions on surface roughness, which includes the derivation of a regression based empirical model.

To make comparison of results of flits work with the previously reported results an exponential form of surface roughness empirical model is also derived.

The results show (hat the studied main factors could be arranged in descending order according to their effectiveness on surface roughness as : foci, work piece material hardness, tool nose radius, depth of cut and cutting speed.

I have been show that surface roughness is directly proportion to feed and depth of cut and inversely proportional to cutting speed, tool nose radius and work piece material hardness.

Based on the exponential equation ; the percentage of the effect or each factor to that of feed are : 11 % for the speed, 46 % for me tool nose radius, 33.7 % for the depth of cut and S3.4 % for the material humidness.

The regression based model emphasizes the importance of some factors interactions ad their effect on surface roughness.

Both models, the regression based and the exponential form, predict acceptable surface roughness values in comparison with the experimental results.
