New distributed protocols that support concurrent message transmissions on different segments in the ring and bus networks are proposed.

These protocols allow the destination station to remove the message body from the ring (or bus] and to issue a new token for the succeeding stations to establish another transmission in the remaining ring (or bus) segment.

These protocols require only one-bit latency at each station and supports variable size messages.

These protocols are called hybrid because their characteristics are similar in some respect to another network protocols.

So, in this thesis, the hybrid protocols are proposed, analyzed and compared with the traditional protocols.

These protocols can provide a fair access to all stations.

These are; pipeline token rings, pipeline slotted rings, pipeline register insertion rings, and pipeline token bus.

Double pipeline token rings, double pipeline slotted rings, double pipeline register insertion rings and double pipeline token bus.
