Lead in water and wastewater causes a serious problem in our environment and affects human life, plankton, and all living animals.
As the effluent standards of the industrial wastes call for a limited value of lead concentration, the present study was made to find out the best technique to remove the lead from industrial wastewater.
The experimental work of this research fella into three parts : First : using direct filtration technique with different additives [lime, I porcelanite, and polyelectrolyte], with filter cloth and filter paper, raw waste samples were used in experiments.
Second : using coagulation / flocculation [jar test] technique with different additives [time, porcelanite, polyelectrolyte, and alum].
Third : using jar test with filtration technique with different additives [lime, polyelectrolyte, and alum], with filter cloth, porcelanite was added to an amount of water and poured above the surface of I filter cloth in the apparatus as a filter media.
In the last two parts, prepared samples were used in the experiments.
There was a difference in the results for lead removal, according to I different conditions, such as : initial lead concentration, pH adjustment, doses of additives and the type of technique The best results were found for direct filtration with filter paper, especially with lime at pH : ll, and porcelanite at dose of 2.0 g / l, and polyelectrolyte at dose of 0,5 g / 1.
As a comparison among the convenient method for removing lead which is used in the industry [flocculation / sedimentation] and the methods which are used in this research, there is a good difference in the final results.
