This research work presents a nonlinear finite element investigation on the behaviour of high strength fiber reinforced concrete panels under pure shear stresses.
This investigation is carried out in order to get a better understanding of their behaviour throughout the entire loading history.
The work implied modeling of the material and simulation of their properties.
The three-dimensional 20-noded brick elements are used to model the concrete,, while the reinforcing bars are modeled as axial members embedded within the concrete brick elements.
Perfect bond was assumed to occur between the concrete and the reinforcing bars.
The compressive behaviour of concrete is simulated by an elasto-plastic work-hardening model followed by a perfectly plastic response.
This is terminated at the onset of crushing.
In tension, a fixed smeared crack model has been used with a tension-stiffening model to represent the retained post-cracking tensile stresses and shear retention model that modifies the shear modulus of rigidity due to cracking.
The incremental-iterative technique has been used to solve the nonlinear equations and the modified Newton-Raphson method is used as a solution algorithm.
The numerical integration has been carried out using the 27-Gaussian points rule.
Several parametric studies have been carried out to investigate the effect of some numerical and material parameters on the predicted finite.
on post-cracking behaviour and ultimate shear strength has been also presented.
The effect of transverse and longitudinal reinforcement ratios on the post-cracking behaviour and shear strength was investigated.
Design charts for fiber reinforced concrete panels under pure shear stresses covering a wide range of reinforcement ratios and grades of concrete ranging from 20 to 80 MPa and fiber content ranging from 0.0 to 2.0 % were developed.
