الملخص EN
Great importance is attached to the need for the treatment of post-general anesthesia shivering as it leads to a rise in the consumption of oxygen up to 600 percent, stretch at the surgical incision, and an increase in the internal pressure of the eyes and brain.
It therefore makes the treatment of post-operative shivering highly important.
The treatment may involve warming of the skin surface and administration of drug.
The use of meperidine, an effective and well-known drug in control of shivering, is prohibited for patients being on MAO-I drugs.
Thus, by comparing the effect of meperidine and methadone, the present study seeks to find a replacement for mridine in cases where its use is prohibited.
In this study, which is conducted as a clinical experiment, 50 patients were selected by means of the simple non-probability method and were randomly assigned to the groups of mepridine and methadonm meperidine group 25 mg of the drug per 70kg of weight were administered intravenously, and in the methadone group 2.5 mg / kg of the diluted drug were administered intravenously.
The drug effects on the treatment of post-anesthesia shivering were studied during recovery.
The average age in the meperidine group was 33.76 years, and in the methadone group, 34.4 years.
The average auxiliary temperature in the meperidine group was 36.1°C, and in the methadone group, 36.08°C (P > 0.05).
The meperidine group showed 84% improvement and the methadone group 64 % improvement of post-anesthesia shivering (P > 0.05).
In the meperidine group the shivering of the majority of the patients improved in the first 30 seconds while in the methadone group patients showed improvement in the first 60 seconds after being given the drug.
The difference of improvement in the two groups was not significant statistically (P > 0.05).
Also, the difference of the auxillary temperatures in the two groups was not significant statistically (P > 0.05).
According to the results, methadone can be used in the treatment of post general anesthesia shivering where the use of meperidine is prohibited.
