الملخص الإنجليزي

This study objective is to test the factors affecting the transformation towards knowledge city.

This study was applied on Irbid city.

To achieve the objectives of this study structured interviews and questionnaires were used.

The structured interviews were concerned about raising the crucial issues to have knowledge city in Irbid.

The questionnaire concerned about collecting data about the factors that affect the transformation of Irbid city to knowledge city.

The questionnaire composed of two parts.

The firsts parts was concerned about collecting data of the personal characteristics of the sample, while the second part concerned to measure the attitudes of the sample for the factors that may form obstacles or affect moving to knowledge city.

Random sample of 153 respondents were selected from the concerned social foundations in Irbid city.

The collected information was entered into SPSS and analyzed using descriptive, inferential statistics and regression analysis.

The results showed the questionnaire was reliable in this study.

The results showed statistical effect of communication tools (conferences) on the catalyst that help the transition to knowledge cities.

The effect of communication tools (TV sat channels, phone, promoting bulletins, and cell phones) on the obstacles that slow down the transition to knowledge cities.

The results have shown that the use of communication tools has effect on the catalyst and obstacles to move to transition to knowledge city at help the transition to knowledge city.

The other indicators including the level of institutional building in organization, the applicability of learning organization, and the volume of publications in organization affect both the catalyst and obstacles to move to knowledge city.

The interviews indicated that there are obstacles to build a knowledge city in Irbid.

The interview results indicated that the economy of Irbid city is still weak which does not help toward a knowledge city.

Also, the business culture in Irbid city does not support towards to KC.

The city requires the contact with other cities in other parts in Jordan to deepening its culture to be a good place for live, work and playing.

The interviews indicated that Irbid has good opportunities toward to be knowledge city.

The infrastructure of Irbid city requires more modification to enable the contact with other cities, improve the business facilities available in the city and improve the tourism movement to the city.

The study recommended that the interested parties should contribute a knowledge city through help in providing catalysts and alleviating obstacles.

The study recommended that the governmental and private sector should incorporate to improve the chances toward to KC.

The corporation between the governmental and private sector should take into consideration the development of investments in city to increase the opportunities of providing new employment vacancies.
