الملخص الإنجليزي

This thesis addresses two issues; the first aims at suggesting a compression approach for Linear Prediction Coding (LPC) based codec by constructing a dynamic reflection coefficients codebook.

This codebook is constructed and used simultaneously using a certain store/retrieve threshold.

The initial linear prediction codec used is excited by a Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) residue, and of order 12 with transmission rate of 5.14 kbps, which was reduced to 3.6 kbps by the codebook approach.

The results quality were tested using the Mean of Score (MOS) and Segmental Signal to Noise Ratio (SSNR) and then compared to the standard Codebook Excited Linear Prediction (CELP).

Both of MOS and SSNR results were reasonable and within acceptable ranges.

The MOS score average was 3.6 and the SSNR was modified within ±5 db range.

The second issue aims at using Hamming Code Data Compressor (HCDC) to compress Linear Prediction Coefficients in their reflection form.

Our CELP system with order 12 and DCT excitation with transmission rate 5.14 kbps was used.

For each frame of the testing signals we applied a multistage HCDC, then we tested the compression performance with parities from 2 to 7.

The best case was achieved with parity 4 only.

With the HCDC, transmission rate was reduced from 5.14 kbps to 3.7 kbps for the best case and to 4.2 kbps for the worst case.

This transmission rate reduction was m ade with no compromise in the original CELP signal Quality since the compression is Lossless.

Afterwards a comparison was held between the two approaches and a theoretical modification to the HCDC was suggested to enhance its performance using the coefficient replacement threshold from the codebook concept.
