الملخص الإنجليزي

-This research was carried out for both Genera (Scandix L.

and Smyrnium L.)and their species of the family Umbeliferae (Apiaceae) in Iraqi Kurdistan region which includes a comprehensive survey for the species in geographical districts of Amadiya (MAM), Rowandus (MRO), Suliamani (MSU), Erbil (FAR), Nineveh (FNI), Kirkuk (FKI) and Persian Foothills(FPF) districts, throughout the field trips have been made, large number of samples were collected and geographical regions were fixed for each species. Reidentification was accomplished for all specimens that are preserved in a number of Iraqi herbaria. A detailed comparative study was conducted on the general morphological character (Macro morphology and Micro morphology) starting from root up to the flowering and fruiting parts with their appendages, in addition to the pollen grain characters. The important taxonomic characteristics were pointed out for all the species and particular attention was paid to the fruit shape that was important for separating and identifying the species, that even scientific name of most species based on it, also the shape of bracts have role in separation the species specially the division of apex and dimensions. These studies have been supported by graphs, tables and photograph. Anatomical study of stems and leaves for all species were investigated by using paraffin methods for tissue preparation. In chemical study a number of phenolic compounds include ( Phenolic acids and flavonoids) were identified based on certain standard compounds and were employed as taxonomic markers. Furthermore, the ecology and geographical distribution of the species have been studied, new locations were recorded for species and maps were designed for this purpose. The present study determined the real number of species for both genera within the studied area which are three species of genus Scandix and one species of Smyrnium as follows : Scandix pecten-veneris , S.

iberica and S.

stellata ,all of which are annual, the Smyrnium cordifoluim which is Biennial species.

Finally species of both genera (Scandix and Smyrnium) have been treated taxonomically and key was prepared for separation of the two genera and their taxa.
