الملخص الإنجليزي

HDPE has become widely used in the last decade.

The largest expansion is being in the process of waste treatment, but it is also for gas and oil transportation, dredge line, fines disposal, and slurry transport, etc….

HDPE posses good mechanical properties, such as yield and tensile strength, with immunity to corrosion and resistance to most chemicals, high resistance to encrustation and abrasion.

In this study, high density polyethylene was mixed with different percentage of carbon black (2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10 %), then pipes produced by extrusion process to study the electrical, mechanical and physical properties which were specified by measuring the (conductivity, shore hardness, water burst pressure, tensile, melt flow rate, density, ultra violet degradation and morphology) at six different temperatures (0, 16, 20, 25, 30 and 40) ºC.

It was found that increasing percent age of carbon black content resulted in increasing conductivity, tensile strength, melt flow rate, and density of high density polyethylene pipes.

It also resulted in a decrease hardness and water burst pressure which consequently leads to pipes failure in a ductile manner.

On the other hand, increasing temperature causes an increasine in conductivity and reduce both hardness and tensile strength.

As for the impact test, it was found that maximum value of work varies between (2-6) % carbon black.

High density polyethylene pipes with carbon black content can be affected by ultra violet radiation.

High density polyethylene without mixing with carbon black can degrade and present loss of physical and mechanical properties.

Upon long term exposure discoloration, brittleness and deterioration occur.

Experimentally obtained results show that for pipe applications high density polyethylene with 2% carbon black content must be used, while for decorative applications high density polyethylene with 10% carbon black content should be used.
