الملخص الإنجليزي

-Walash and Naopurdan groups at Sidakan area represent allochtonous suit that occupies part of Zagros Suture Zone, northeast Iraq.

The present study dealt with Walash volcanic and sub-volcanic rocks which represent the lower allochtonous and consist of massive and layered lavas without alternating with sedimentary rocks representing upper Walash Group.

The lower allochtonous thrust sheet at Sidakan is overlain by Gemo-Qandil group (Upper Allochthone) which represents high mountain peaks (e.g.

Hazards Mountain).

Detailed petro graphical investigations of the studied rocks show that they have been affected by sub-sea metamorphism (sub-sea / rock interaction) within the domains of Green schist facies, which is characterized by albite, actinolite, chlorite, epidote, quartz and calcite.

Therefore the primary minerals are replaced by secondary minerals due to the alteration and metamorphism effects with the presence of clinopyroxene as a relict Based on immobile elements such as (Ti, Zr, P, Y and Nb) and some of the (REE) as well as other elements, the majority of the rocks are basic in composition, and have sub alkaline (tholeiite and calc-alkaline) affinities.

Tectonically, these elements show that the studied rocks represent back-arc setting.

These rocks can be related to different degrees of partial melting (5- 20 %) of single partial melting trend of mantle origin with subsequent fractional crystallization, resulting from the transfer of components from the sub ducted slab into the mantle wedge Accordingly, a tectonic model is set up as follows: Walash volcanic and sub-volcanic rocks at Sidakan were formed due to the intra-oceanic seduction episode in Paleocene which led to the eruption in an island arc and followed by back arc extension.

During Middle Miocene, Arabian plate collided with Sanandaj–Sirjan micro plate, which led to juxtaposition of Walash-Naopurdan allochtonous thrust sheet against Qulqula-Khwakurk subzone (i.e., accretionary complex terrain), which was adhered to the Arabian continental margin as a result of non-stopping convergence regime.
