The electronic absorption, excitation and emission spectra as well as the fluorescence and photochemical quantum yields of N, N--dicetyI iodide -1, 4- bis [4-pyridinum-2-vinyl] benzene (CPVB) were measured in different solvents and micellar media.

Both absorption and emission maxima were found to be less sensitive to the medium polarity.

CPVB shows low fluorescence and high photochemical quantum yields.

The emission intensity increases as the concentration of micelles (SDS and CTAB) increases with large red shift in SDS micelle.
