الملخص الإنجليزي

Much has been written about Dylan Thomas (1914-1953).

Some of the early writings about him were harsh and unkind.

He was criticized for different reasons, like the obscurity found in some of his poems and his personal way of living.

Recent writings about Thomas are becoming more just and fairer, because this time critics look at his poems as a kind of art and his personal flaws are not taken as measures to evaluate his works.

The thesis is divided into four chapters.

Its aim is to prove that nature accompanies man with the passage of the different stages of life.

Nature is wonderful and merciful for a child.

Nature is full of activity and growth when he becomes young.

It is terrifying and no longer helpful when he gets old.

Thomas took elements from nature to talk about these stages, but the problems he had and faced in life, like his poor health, are reflected in his poems about youth.

Thus, there is creation and destruction in these poems.

The thesis talks about the stages of childhood, youth and old age and for each one of them a poem is chosen to discuss.

The aim in doing so is to clarify the way Thomas dealt with nature with reference to these stages.

Moreover, his handling of language and imagery enabled him to make his poetry rich in appealing to the literary public.

Chapter one is provided to give the reader necessary information about the poet.

In this part, the main events of Thomas's life, his poetic and prose works, his view of poetry and the major events which affected his poetry are discussed.

The second chapter is about childhood.

In this part Thomas's childhood period is discussed.

Furthermore, “Fern Hill” is chosen to support the idea he had about that stage of life.

The third chapter is about youth.

In addition to dedicating some pages to give the reader enough information about his youth, “The force that through the green fuse drives the flower” is chosen to be analyzed for the purpose of proving a main point of the hypothesis.

The fourth chapter is about old age and death.

Thomas looks at that stage from the viewpoint of his old and blind father.

"Do not go gentle into that good night" is analyzed to show the idea of Thomas about old age.

After the conclusion, the bibliography is presented, followed by synopsis in Kurdish and Arabic.
