الملخص الإنجليزي

A geophysical study was conducted for Al-Akaidr landfill to determine the impact of the landfill on groundwater during the summer of 2011, which is located along the northern road of Jaber International Road.

The study area is about 0.806 km2 and located between the coordinates (32˚ 30'.51 84'' - 32̊ 31'.7 68 '') N and (36˚ 05'.49 92'' - 36̊ 07'.7 68 '') E.

The Greater Irbid Municipality had started to use this site for solid and liquid waste dumping since 1981.

It's the only landfill in the north of Jordan and it is the second largest landfill in Jordan.

A geoelectrical survey was conducted in the study area using the Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) and electromagnetic survey by using the Transit Electromagnetic (TEM).

Through analyzing the 42 TEM loops and doing geoelectrical cross section, the leachate was resulted is concentrated in and around the dumping site, which is the source of the leachate and it is moving vertically, reaching a depth (200 m) and by resistivity less than (5 ohm.

m) and it doesn't move on the landfill sides.

By analyzing the results of the Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES), the depth of groundwater was found to be around (300 m) and that was clear from the results of the resistivity which was less than (5 ohm.

m) in the ninth layer and the depth that was reached.

Through the electric sounding it was not possible that leachate out the landfill to appear which indicates that leachate is moving vertically toward the bottom under the landfill only. The pollution that was detected in some groundwater wells near the landfill site due to the leachate that resulted from waste water and industrial pollutants in the landfill was leaked to the ground and pollute the groundwater.
