الملخص الإنجليزي

Medicinal plants are important elements of indigenous systems; these resources are usually regarded as part of culture’s traditional of our knowledge.

Therefore, the aim of this study is to collect information from local population concerning the use of medicinal plants of the northern badia region and to identify the most important medicinal plants used.

Determine the relative importance of the species surveyed and calculate the informant consensus factor (ICF) in relation to used medicinal plants.

Qualitative tools were used for data collection and to record the interviewee’s personal information and topics related to the medicinal use of specific plants.

The collected data were used to calculate the (ICF) and the plant use UV values.

Seventy -nine plants were identified to be still in use in traditional practice in northern badia.

The highest use values were recorded for the species Artemisia herba-alba Asso.

(0.90).

Twenty plants (of 79 plants) were used to treat skin manifestations as burns.

According to UV value, the Rubia tinctorum had the highest value (0.45).

In this study, the roots of the Rubia tinctorum were dried and ground.

Twenty rabbits were assigned into four groups: A, B, C, D.

Burning was induced in all groups by placing the rabbits in boiling water bath (99 C) for 10 seconds leading to a third degree burn.

Then group A was treated with the Rubia tinctorum extract (10 gram with ointment based).

Group B was treated with the Rubia tinctorum extract (20 gram with ointment based).

Group C was left without treatment (control group).

Group D was treated with flammazine (conventional treatment).

The results of this study showed that groups A and B were enhanced compared with groups C and D.

The extract of the Rubia tinctorum did not show antimicrobial activity.

Even though, it was able to induce over expression of HSP 70 and to inhibit partial expression of iNOS.
