الملخص الإنجليزي

Routes in ad hoc networks are multihop because of the limited propagation range of wireless radios.

Since nodes in the network move freely and randomly, routes often get disconnected.

Routing protocols are thus responsible for maintaining and reconsfructing the routes in a timely manner as well as establishing the long-lasting routes.

In additition, routing protocols are required to perform all the above tasks without generating excessive control message overhead.

Reducing the control overhead can make the routing protocol efficient in bandwidth and energy consumption.

As the technology and popularity of Internet grow, applications, such as videoconferencing, that require reliable routing protocols are becoming more widespread.

In a typical ad hoc environment, network hosts work in groups to carry out a given task.

Therefore, routing protocols play an important role in ad hoc networks. Enhanced Associativity Protocol is a bandwidth efficient on-demand routing protocol for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks.

The EABR protocol comprises of two main functions of Route Discovery and Route Maintenance.

Route Discovery function is responsible for the discovery of new route, when one is needed and Route Maintenance function is responsible for the detection of link breaks and repair of an existing route.

The protocol achieves its bandwidth efficiency by using a novel method in route.

reconstruction, which limits the number of routing messages such that the numbers of links fraversed during route reconstruction are minimized and hen،e bandwidth is efficiently utilized.

Also the new method for route reconstruction maximizes the usage of the established route as far as the reconstructing is possible, which will keep the long-lived route.

Moreover, this new method the will give the destination node an active role in the route reconstruction process, while in the ABR the destination node role was passive in the route reconstruction phase. The current Qualities of Service Models, which are defined for wired Networks, are not completely applicable for MANET.

Therefore, new QoS models were infroduced for MANET.

In this thesis QoS extensions were added to the EABR protocol as these extensions have never been added to the original ABR.

However, these extensions will add more overheads in the route construction phase as it involves more computation at the intermediate node compared to the standard EABR protocol. The simulation results were in favor of the EABR ; particularly when the lengths of the routes were relatively smell.

Specifically the simulation results showed that the overall EABR enhancement in route reconstruction ranges from 36 % to 56 % under different topologies ranging from 30 to 50 nodes and different routes of length ranges from 5 to 30 nodes.

In cases when the reconstruction is done in the first half of the route the enhancement ranges from 60 % to 90 % tinder the same different topologies, while enhancement ranges from 11% to 33 % when the reconstruction is done in the second half of the route.
