الملخص الإنجليزي

The present work is devoted to study the one dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis of plain, reinforced, and prestessed concrete beams without web reinforcement.

The work established for the rectangular beam sections and static load.

The 2-node isoparametric beam element has been used to represent the concrete while reinforcing bars are idealized as axial members embedded within the concrete elements without any relative displacement between them.

Also perfect bond was assumed between the concrete and steel reinforcement.

For concrete under compressive stresses, the behavior is assumed elastic at the beginning of loading and then elastic-plastic work hardening model followed by a linear degradation in the compressive stress.

The tension behavior of concrete was simulated by a softening tension curve.

For steel the linear elastic model is used to represent the behavior under compressive or tensile stress.

Many different beams are analyzed with different support conditions and concentrated loads.

The resulted load-displacement and moment-curvature curves showed good agreement when compared with the experimental work of Emanoel and the elastic theorem.

Fracture energy is studied in this research ; it has direct influence in plain concrete beams while this effect is smaller in reinforced concrete because of the bond between the steel and concrete, and the maximum load depends on the fracture energy.

When the fracture energy is decreased the failure load is decreased too.

For different fracture energies the failure loads for the same section are different.

The plain concrete failed when the cracks are capable to transmit the stresses across the two faces of the crack.

But the reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete failed when discharge stress in cracks are happened in tensile area (incapable to transmit the stresses across the two faces of the crack).

The longitudinal steel stresses is studied along the span with the load increasing, the stress is increased at maximum moment, and is drawn in figures.
