الملخص الإنجليزي

Urtica plubifilera is utilized in folk medicine to treat severa) diseases among which is diabetes.

As the case for other plants used in folk medicine, the toxicity risks associated with use of such plants he.؛ to be evaluate To evaluate in vivo the hepatic-portal-activity and hypoglycemic potentials of the methanol extracts of Uriiica pilulifera, By enzyme assay ( AT.T; AST, ALP ) for the liver functions, protein determination ( albumin ), to determining the LD50 of u.pilulifera metabolic leaves extract, to study changes in some organs and body weight during each experiment, to estimation of some biochemical parameters for Kidney functions (urea, uric acid and keratinize concentration), and to study liver histology by sections to detect the cellular changes.

Three groups of rats were involved in this study.

The first group was exposed to ethanol treatment (lml, 15 % ethanol were administered orally every other day).

The second group was exposed to alloxan (150 ml / kg) subcutaneously.

The third group was administered by normal saline orally (control group).

The first and second groups were divided to other Sub-group which treated respectively by two doses of u.pilulifera (1.25 g / kg and 1.88g / Kg).

In ethologic groups, for the most biochemical parameters, ethanol induced significant changes in liver, kidney, and body weight.

Liver enzymes were elevated significantly compared with control group.

Kidney function tests (keratinize, urea and uric acid) were elevated significantly compared with control group.

After treatment by two different doses of u.pilulifera (1.25 g / kg.

1.88 g / kg), all previous parameters were restored significantly compared with control.

Diabetes was induced by alloxan after treatment with u.

pilufera both of liver function test, and kidney test were restored significantly compared with diabetic group.

Immunohistological studies showed increased expression level ofHSP70 and INOS in liver and kidney due to diabetes and ethanol treatment.

even u.

pilulifera treatment induced significant changes on liver and kidney function tests, but its effects on expression of both ofHSP70 and INOS was not statistically significant.

The use of u.

pilulifera was proved to have significant effects in reducing the adverse effects of ethanol toxicity and diabetes.

From molecular point of view, the use of u.

pilulifera needs to be more validated since adverse effects in terms of expression of INOS are still forming risk factors.
