This study aimed to explore the effect of using blogs for teaching English to EFL learners' performance in writing.
It also sought to determine if there is any effect of using blog type (blogs vs.
photo blog) on students' writing performance development.
The study also investigated if blogs contribute to EFL learners' performance in writing activities types.
To achieve its objectives, the study aimed to answer the following three researcher questions; firstly, are there any significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental groups and the control group due to method (website blogs vs.
regular instruction) on the EFL learners' performance on the writing post-test? are there any significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental groups due to blog type (blogs vs.
photo blog) on the EFL learners' performance on the writing post-test? are there any significant differences for using blogs on the EFL learners' performance in writing activities (match the photo, rewrite the sentences, describe the photo, and describe the place) on the writing post-test The participants of the study consisted of sixty 11th grade female students' in the literary section in the second semester of the scholastic year 2011 / 2012 at Iman Bent AL-Hussein Secondary School for Girls.
The quasi-experimental design was applied on the study.
The participants were divided into three groups.
The two experimental groups were taught using the website blogs method.
The control group was taught using the regular instruction method by the same teacher.
Both groups sat to a pretest and post-test.
A four-question achievement test related to writing skill was designed by the researcher to measure students' achievement before and after the study.
To find the differences that may arise because of the treatment conditions in the study, means, standard deviation, one way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), T-test, and Scheffe test were used.
The findings of the study showed that there were significant differences between the mean scores of the control group (regular instruction) and the experimental group (website blogs) group in favor of the experimental group.
Furthermore, the findings revealed that there was a significant effect between the mean scores of blogs and photo blogs, in favor of the photo blogs technique.
Results also showed that students' achieved the highest significant means in the writing skill of matching the photo activity.
Finally, a number of recommendations directed to the Ministry of Education, teachers and researchers were presented.
