Influence of dried yeast and mineral mixture as feed additives on beef cattle performance

This work was carried out to evaluate live dried baker's yeast (LDY) and mineral mixture (MX) supplements on performance, carcass traits and some haematological values of baladi cow calves.

Twenty entire male baladi cow calves averaging 325 + 5 kg in weight were allotted to four similar groups, five animal/each and assigned randomly in respective order to four different dietary treatments for 120 days.

The treatments were (R1) control, (R2) control + 10 g LDY, (R3) control + 40 g MX and (R4) control + 10 g LDY + 40 g MX.

The control ration was consisted of 70 % concentrate mixture + 30 % wheat straw.

The results revealed that the animals fed R4 showed the highest values of digestibility coefficients and feeding values followed by those fed R2, R3 and R1 (control ration), respectively.

Also, animals fed R4 showed the highest final body weight, total gain, daily gain and feed conversion followed by those fed R3, R2 and R1, respectively.

Carcass weight, dressing percentage and carcass muscles were increased with rations contained LDY and/or MX compared with control ration.

The blood parameters were increased significantly with rations contained LDY and/or MX compared with control ration.

Regarding the economical evaluation, R4 had the best net revenue compared with other rations.
