A Cross-sectional study of 1876 pregnant women with urinary tract infections attended Al-Noor Maternal and Child Health Teaching Center in Baghdad city had been selected during the period 1st June to 30th September 2007 .They were investigated for urinary tract infection with bacteria The prevalence rate of bacteriuria (colony count 105 organism / ml) among the patients was 15.6 %, and such prevalence was distributed in an age-dependent manner.

The results also revealed that there was a highly significant difference in the prevalence rate of bacteriuria in relation to parity and previous history of urinary tract infection and diabetes mellitus.

The rate of bacteriuria was not affected by the period of pregnancy or a previous history of anemia.
