The pattern of mental disorders in the firs dispensary for mental and neurological disorders

To have an idea about the pattern of mental disorders who attend The First Dispensary for Mental and Neurological Disorders, a private mental institute.

All the patients who attended the dispensary for the first time, between 1st Jan 2003 and 31st March 2003, were included in a cross sectional study.

They were 142 (93males and 49 females) patients.

The mean of age was 29.7 years.

There were 21.8 % schizophrenia, 12.7 % depression, 10.9 % other psychotic disorders, and 25.4 % neurotic disorders.

Most of them were married.

The low education level and illiterates represented 71.1 %.
