Transition metal complexes with tridentate ligand 1E, 2E-ethanedial (2, 4-dinitro phenyl)‎ hydrazone[5-(2-hydroxy phenyl)‎-1, 3, 4-oxadiazol-2-yl]hydrazone

A new ligand 1E,2E- ethanedial (2,4-dinitro phenyl) hydrazone [5-(2-hydroxy phenyl)-1, 3, 4-oxadiazol--2 yl] hydrazone (L) and its Cr (III), Fe (III), Co (III), Ni (II) and Cu (II) complexes were synthesized.

The authenticity of the ligand and its transition metal complexes were established by elemental analyses, conductance measurements, as well as spectroscopy (IR, mass, uv-visible).

The IR and mass spectral studies was corresponding as it is expected.

The electronic spectral studies suggest an octahedral geometry for the complexes [Cr (III), Fe (III), Co (III)] and tetrahedral geometry for the complex Ni (II) and Cu (II) The ligand acts as a tridentate ligand coordinating through the oxygen atom of the oxadiazole ring and as well through the two nitrogen.
