الملخص EN

This treatise probes the relationship between crime and terrorism conceptualized against the case study of terrorism in Northern Ireland.

The research undertakes a panoptic assessment of the association between crime and terrorism to probe both causes and the effects of these social conditions.

Whilst a review of contemporary literature is drawn upon to determine the fundamental basis of the terrorism/crime nexus; a quantitative synopsis is undertaken to glimpse at the continued manifestation of crime and terrorism; for which the research uses information gathered from public sources.

Accepting that terrorist groups, or for that matter, criminal enterprises are clandestine by nature and design the study contends that a review of criminal behavior may provide an indication of the ongoing tension and the levels of violent criminality.

The review is structured to illuminate the why, how, where and what of crime and terrorism as well as undertaking a financial review of profits and comparative international view on where the crime/terrorism nexus appears more pronounced.

The research forms the opinion that whilst crime and terrorism slip easily from the tongue they are in fact subject to what is termed the paradox of inconsistency.

The tiers of enquiry are built up to develop what is referred as the equation of complexity adding dependent variables of time, space, functional and ideological connection and structure.

Crime and terrorism connected - yes but one size does not fit all.
