الملخص الإنجليزي

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of using Learning by Teaching on EFL students' achievement and attitudes in the district of Al-Tafela in Jordan.

The study attempted to answer the following questions : 1- Is there an effect for using LdL on the ninth grade students' achievement? 2- Is there an effect for using LdL on the ninth grade students' attitudes toward learning EFL? The population of the study consisted of all female ninth graders at Al-Tfela Directorate of Education in the academic year 2011-2012.

A random sample of the study consisted of 39 female ninth grade students that was divided into two groups; control group of 19 students that was taught using the conventional method and the experimental group of 19 female ninth grade students that was subjected to the LdL strategy.

SPSS software (version 17) was used to analyze students’ scores, the findings of the study reveled that there was a statically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in all three aspects : reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary.

With regard to students' attitudes : the results of the individual interviews indicated that they were highly positive.

Based on the result of the study, recommendations for EFL teachers, for the Ministry of Education, and for further research were suggested.
