الملخص الإنجليزي

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of online chat rooms technology in facilitating English as a foreign language speaking skill at the public secondary schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This is a qualitative and quantitative research.

In the former a Semi-Structured interview were used, while in the latter a questionnaire survey were employed.

The sample of the study consisted of 52 secondary students at public schools for boys in Saudi Arabia.

The findings of this research indicated that online chat rooms are very supportive, less time consuming, helpful and even a comfortable tool in developing speaking and oral communication skills.

Thus, this research recommends that online chat rooms be implemented as an effective tool for advancing EFL speaking skills in the Saudi Context.
