Orientalism and Arab-Muslim characters in greenes the heart of the matter : a narrative, stylistic study in terms of rimmom-kenan’s model

Arabs and Muslims have intermittently appeared in Western Writings whether fictional or factual.

The representations are almost always stereotypical of the orientalist tradition with its propensity to subordinate and belittle.

Ideologically speaking, the derogation of the other races was a celebrated tradition and perhaps still is.

This study tries to examine Arab and Muslim characters that appear in Graham Greene's The Heart of the Matter against the backdrop of orientalist ideology.

Rimmon-Kenan's model of characterization is adopted to analyze and interpret the textual clues regarding two Muslims in the novel, namely, Ali and Yusef in an attempt to capture and identify the racial and ideological parameters operating.
