الملخص الإنجليزي

The study area lies mainly in Khartoum North (Khartoum Bahry) locality, east of River Nile and Blue Nile between latitudes 15º 20' to 15º 37' and longitudes 32º 31' to 32º 56'.

River Nile and Blue Nile represent the permanent drainage pattern in the area, in addition to seasonal khors and wadies that drain water from east to west.

The geological sequences in the study area comprise the Precambrian basement complex, Cretaceous sedimentary Formation, Quaternary Gezira formation and the superficial deposits that cover the area in addition to valley fills.

The main water-bearing formations are Cretaceous sedimentary rocks (upper and lower aquifer zone), Gezira Formation (upper and lower aquifers) and superficial deposits.

Aquifers are under confined and semi-confined conditions.

The main objectives of study are to evaluate and assess the hydrogeological and hydro chemical parameters of water resources in the study area and to estimate the aquifer potentiality for future development.

The water level contour maps, the flow direction and spatial distribution of hydraulic and hydro chemical properties were prepared by using the surfer software.

Pumping test analyses were performed by using AquaTest software.

Chemical characteristics and groundwater types were analyzed and interpreted, through the use of plotchem software.

Regional groundwater flow in the study area initially eastward from the river and north direction.

the hydraulic conductivity varies from 5 * 10-2 to 0.13 * 10-2 to word the Nile whereas, the transmissivity varies from 2.11 * 103 m2.

day to 7.2 * 102 m2.

day ,and the storage coefficient varies from 2.4 * 10-2 to 1.2 * 10-2 respectively.

Groundwater in study area is characterized by Na-HCO4 -Cl-water type and Na-SO4-Cl water-type.

Generally groundwater is suitable and fit for industrial, irrigation of most crops and domestic use and human consumption with few exceptional areas where very high salinity were detected due to leaching processes through the water passage in the basement rocks, evaporite and kanker deposits as well as agriculture activities and poultry and animal farms at hazardous points.
