الملخص الإنجليزي

This study was carried out in the Aluminum extrusion plant, Giad industrial city, Gizera state.

It aimed to determine the effect of exposure to Aluminum fumes among Sudanese extrusion workers.

A total of 30 blood samples were randomly collected from workers and compared with 15 unexposed blood samples (as control).

The extrusion workers themselves collected data from the extrusion workers included in the study in questionnaire form.

Samples were analyzed by graphite furnace–atomic absorption spectrophotometry (GF- AAS), the result of Aluminum serum concentration of workers were so high (2.55 – 7.40 µg / L) compared with control (0.82–1.12 µg / L).

In addition, Hemoglobin and Urea were estimated as parameters, which were associated with increased blood Aluminum concentrations samples, the results showed that were in normal range.

The airborne Aluminum samples were analyzed by using NIOSH method (NIOSH, 1994); the result showed that the airborne Aluminum is well below the generally accepted threshold limit value (TLV) of 10 mg / m3 for Aluminum dust, as set by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH 1996).

The slight changes in Aluminum serum concentrations had strongest relationship to many variables such as, duration time of work and safety mask used ; it increased in workers who have long duration time of work and in those non using of safety mask through their daily duty.

Good ventilation must be found in Aluminum plants and workers must be having periodical vacations.
