الملخص الإنجليزي

The objective of this study is to determine maternal serum lipid levels at 26-32 weeks of gestation and the effect of multiparity on maternal lipid profile.

Study population is normal term pregnant women age 18-42 years who delivered normally with no previous obstetric complication and all previous deliveries were spontaneous, normal term and uneventful.

Maternal serum lipid levels were determined from 125 normal pregnant women.

Their mean age was 30 ± 12 years.

The nulliparity (P0) was about 30.8 per cent, the first parity–primiparity- (P1) was about 30.8 per cent, whereas, the multiparity -grand and great grand-(PG) were 38.5 per cent.

Mean serum total cholesterol (TC) levels in P0, P1 and PG were 98.1 ± 20, 224.7 ± 22.1 and 288.8 ± 34.7 mg/dl, respectively.

Serum triglyceride (TG) levels in P0, P1 and PG were 73 ± 11.1, 183 ± 23 and 236 ± 34.2 mg / dl, respectively; serum low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) in P0, P1 and PG were 30.6 ± 9.4, 152.3 ± 21.9 and 174.4 ± 44 mg / dl, respectively; serum very low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-C) in P0, P1 and PG were 14.6 ± 1.8, 36.6 ± 7.7 and 47.2 ± 5.4 mg / dl, respectively ; and serum high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels in P0, P1 and PG were 53 ± 10.5, 35.8 ± 5.3, 67.2 ± 11 mg / dl, respectively.

Serum TC, TG and LDL-C levels increased with parity.

There was a significant variance between maternal lipid and nulliparity (p ≤ 0.01) as well as between primiparity and multiparity (p ≤ 0.01).

There was no significant difference between primiparity and multiparity in maternal VLDL-C (p > 0.05).
