Oral communication problems faced by the seventh grade students in Omdurman Province

الملخص الإنجليزي

This study aimed at finding the reasons behind the weakness in the oral skills of English language among the basic level school students in Omdurman province.

The researcher used three instruments for data collection.

The tools were reliable and valid.

The researcher made use of both the descriptive and the deductive methods.

The study sample was composed of 60 English language teachers, 15 English language supervisors and six selected schools in Omdurman province for the classroom observation.

To analyze the results of the questionnaire answers (SPSS) program was applied.

The interviews answers were written ; then analyzed.

Also the observation checklist was analyzed.

The study has arrived at the following : The untrained teachers in the basic schools have basic role on the students weakness in the oral skills.

The lack of the teaching aids also lead to this weakness.

The over crowded classes also add to this weakness, hence the students did not have enough chances to practice the oral language in the classroom.

Also the absence of the oral test lead to the weakness in the oral skills.

The general weakness in English language teaching and learning lead to this weakness, because the students did not master the other language skills.

The time given to English classes during the week is not enough, also this is one of the reasons behind this weakness. According to these results the researcher offers her recommendations
