الملخص الإنجليزي

-This study was conducted in Omdurman south, west of White Nile lies between latitude 15º 14´-15º 25´N and longitude 32º 32´- 32º 35´E covered the area of about 332km2 along the Nile, the objectives of this study are: to study the present of salinity in the groundwater of the study area and its causes and to find other alternatives of drinking water in the villages of high salinity content.

The methodology used to achieve aforementioned objectives initial effort were concentrated on collection and analyzing sufficient amount of available geologic, hydrogeology, hydraulic, topographic and meteorology data in the study area many techniques and software were used to achieve the objectives of this study include: Aqua Cham, for hydrochemical and Aqua Test, software for aquifer characteristic, and Rock ware constructing cross- sections and other Techniques that have been used. The geological units in the study area classed as follows: Basement Complex of the Pre- Cambrian, the oldest rock unit in the area, overlies by Cretaceous sedimentary formation Cretaceous in age and Volcanic Rocks of Tertiary and the last rock unit superficial deposit of Quaternary to Recent in age .

Khartoum state is lies under a porous rock of relatively high to low hydrogeological importance. The knowledge of the hydrogeological classification of the aquifer in the study area and quantity and quality of the groundwater is vital for making decision on the design of the water treatment system to be used. Hydraulic properties of the aquifers in the study area are determined using appropriate pumping test, aquifers test software.

The most convenient methods to estimate the aquifer characteristics in the study area are Jacob- Cooper and Theis methods, maximum values of Transmissivity ranging between 6.07x10 to 9.54x103,Theis Method, water level is varies from 311m a.s.l to 383.5m a.s.l and total depths are 213m a.s.l to 345m a.s.l, high concentration of cations is due to evaporates rocks and kanker nodules deposit upper horizon of aquifer formation
