ICSI outcome of fresh and frozen-thawed testicular sperms in obstructive and non-obstructive azoospermia

To evaluate the ICSI outcome In patients with obstructive and non obstructive azoospermia undergoing testicular sperm retrieval and the effects of fresh testicular sperm origin and sperm cypi^ervation in obstructive and non obstructive azoospermia on treatment outcome Design: Retrospective study. Setting: IVF unit c PLAS Hospital Yemen Sanaa Patient: A total of 230 couples with primary infertility caused by azoospermia were treated at our center between july2007 and july2010.the 174 of them was positive.

No spermatozoa could be found in 56 patients, the histologic findings Include a Sertoli cell- only pattern, maturation arrest, and hy^spermatogenesis.

The patients with spermatozoa divided into two groups (group 1: obstructive azoo.spermia, n = 76; group 2: non obstructive azoospermia, n = 98).

Then divided to fresh sperm (52 obstructive 56 non obstructive and thawed sperm (24 obstructive 42 non obstructive).

١ Result: Our results indicate that the clinical pregnancy rate is similar when frozen-thawed testicular spermatozoa (50%) or fresh testicular spermatozoa (46,15%) are used for ICSI in (OA) and there is significant.deference in the clinical pregnancy rate between frozen-thawed testicular spermatozoa (66,66%) and fresh testicular spermatozoa(39/28%) are used for ICSI in (NOA). Conclusion: the use of frozen-thawed testicular spermatozoa for ICSI yields acceptable fertilization and pregnancy rates.

Freezing the testicular tissue guarantees paternal gametes for subsequent ovarian stimulation cycles and the need for only one combined diagnostic and therapeutic testicular biopsy procedure.
