الملخص الإنجليزي

This study is done to study the groundwater resources in North Kordofan State between latitude 12º 30' and 13º 00'N and longitude 31º 11' and 32º 07'E.

The purpose of the study is to investigate and evaluate the groundwater resource in Tendalti area.

The geological unites in the study area are: the Basement Complex, the sedimentary rocks which includes : Cretaceous sandstone, Umm Ruwab Formation and superficial deposits (clayey plains, khors, wadi alluvium and Qoz sand). The geophysical methods applied are electrical resistivity method: Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) and Horizontal Electrical Profile (HEP) to determine the groundwater occurrence, aquifer extensions, thickness and depth and calibrated with borehole lithological data. The hydrogeological setting can be identified by two aquifer types: the shallow aquifer which includes the upper Umm Ruwaba aquifer, wadis and sandstone aquifers.

These groups are considered as perched water, and the depth of the water level range between 2m to 30m from the surface land.

The other group is deep Umm Ruwaba aquifer which ranges from 71 m to 87 m from the subsurface land is the main aquifer in the area. Groundwater in the study area range between 7.1 and 8.7pH unit.

And the haffirs water between 6.1 and 7.7 pH unit.

The EC range from 300 to 1800 μs / cm in the study area.

The total hardness in the study area varies from 40 to 532 mg / l. The chemical analysis for water samples to determine the suitability of groundwater for human consumption and agricultural purposes according to (WHO) standards and according to the total dissolved solids (TDS) values in water.

Chemical analysis of water from approximately 25 representative wells in the study area shows that there are a general relationship between chemical quality of water and its geologic source.

The anionic and cationic composition of the aquifer at some area shows that the carbonate, bicarbonate, calcium, magnesium and sodium are the highest concentrations.

It is clear that high values are attained in areas adjacent to the boundary and low towards the North and Northeast.

The Sodium Absorption Ratio is used to determine the groundwater suitability for agricultural uses.

In the study area the TDS values ranges between 260mg / l and 1820mg / l in boreholes, between 195 to 487.5mg / l in dug wells and range between 65 to 195mg / l for surface water.

Generally water in the study area ranges from fresh water to brackish water.
