الملخص الإنجليزي

Four pot experiments and three field experiments were conducted in the seasons of 2003 / 2004, 2004 / 2005 and 2005 / 2006 at Shendi and Hudeiba Research Stations farms, to study the Effects of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv.

viceae and Bacillus megaterium var.

phosphaticum (BMP) inoculations and chemical fertilizers with nitrogen and phosphorus on faba bean (Vicia faba L.) growth and production properties.

The strains of Rhizobium used on all experiments were ENRRI 9 and TAL 1399, BMP strains were phosphorin and phosphobacterin, and fertilizers doses were 50 kg/ha nitrogen + 42 kg/ha phosphorus and 25 kg / ha nitrogen + 21 kg / ha phosphorus. Rhizobium inoculation individually increased significantly (P ≤ 0.05) nodulation, shoot, root and nodule dry weight, phosphorus content in shoot, yield, seed moisture, ash, crude fiber and crude protein.

BMP inoculation individually increased significantly (P ≤ 0.05) nodulation, root and nodule dry weight, nitrogen and phosphorus content in shoot, yield, seed moisture, ash and fat in faba bean plants.

Application of chemical fertilizers increased shoot and root dry weight, nitrogen and phosphorus content in shoot significantly (P ≤ 0.05).

All these results compared to uninoculated control. Rhizobium and BMP co-inoculation compared to individual inoculation and uninoculated control significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased nodulation, root dry weight, nitrogen and phosphorus content, seed moisture and ash in faba bean plants.

Inoculation with strains TAL 1399 and phosphorin individually increased significantly (P ≤ 0.05) nodules number and dry weight, nitrogen content, yield, 100-seeds weight, and seed quality in faba bean plants compared to the 3-way interaction between the Rhizobium, BMP and chemical fertilizers. The study revealed the need for biological fertilizers with compatible effective strains to compensate the chemical fertilizers, to decrease the expenses of chemical fertilizers and to protect the environment from pollution hazards.
