الملخص الإنجليزي

-Diabetes mellitus is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin.

The management of diabetes has three parts 1- Healthy eating 2- Physical activity 3- Medication (if needed).

The aims of the study are prevalence of diabetes in children, adults and pregnant women.

Biochemical and Hematological (HbA1c) parameters.

The study include 100 children 150 adult and 50 pregnant women all this conducted in the department of clinical Biochemistry AL Zawia Teaching hospital in AlZawia city in Libia. The main outcome measures contain serum lipid profile including cholesterol, Triglycerides, Low density lipoprotein, High density lipoprotein, Blood sugar, Blood urea, serum cereatinine and Hemoglobin A1c.

The results according: 1- Level of Serum cholesterol and triglycerides in comparison with reference levels are significantly increased.

2- The study showed coloration between blood sugar and HbA1c in adults about 8.6%, in pregnant women about 7.3% and in pediatric high significance about 10.6%. 3- This study showed that 33% of diabetic patients had renal failure complication.

4- This study showed 62% of diabetic patients do not perform regular physical exercise and 33% of them were uncontrolled in diet. 5- This study showed about 59% of them had positive family history of diabetes mellitus.
