Novel Re (v)‎, Ni (II)‎ and Cu (II)‎ complexes of tetradentate ligands with NS3 donor sets

The cyclic mercapto-thioesters (3-chloro-2-oxo-1,4-dithiacyclohexane and 2-oxo-1,4-dithiacyclohexane) were reacted with 2-mercaptoethylammonium chloride and 1-amino-2-methylpropane-2thiol hydrochloride to give the new tetradentate, (3-aza-5-chloro-6-thia-octa-4-one-1,8-dithiol) (H3L1), (3-aza-6-thia-octa-4-one-1,8-dithiol) (H3L2) and (4-aza-7-thia-2-methyl-nona-5-one-2,9-dithiol) (H3L3).

[ReOCl3(PPh3)2] or [ReO2(py)4]Cl was reacted with (H3L1) and (H3L2), in methanol and under basic condition to give the new neutral rhenium(V)-oxo complexes [ReO(Ln)], (where n=1,2).

Also neutral complexes of these ligands with NiII and CuII of the general formula [M(HLn)], (where M= Ni or Cu; n= 1, 2 or 3), were isolated.

All the ligands and complexes were characterised as needed by microanalysis, spectroscopic methods (I.R, U.V-Vis., 1H, 13C NMR and mass spectroscopy), along with molar conductivity measurements.

From the above data the proposed molecular structure for Re(V)-oxo with the ligands is a distorted square pyramidal, while (Ni) and (Cu) adopted a distorted square planar and a distorted tetrahedral respectively.
