الملخص الإنجليزي
This study was designed to evaluate aerobic becteria that cause acute suppurative tonsilitis and to detect the prevalence of these arganisms which infect the tonsils of sudanese population ( at Khartoum State) .
Individual patients in Sudanese community were inducted in the study according to different age and both sexes.
A total of 312 tonsil’s swab specimens were collected ,262 specimens were collected from patients suffering from acute suppurative tonsilistis, 62 specimens were droped or omitted.
200 specimens subjected to study and 50 specimens were collected from volunteers for a comparative study among isolates .
All specimens were cultured on blood agar and chocolate agar plates and incubated at 37ºc for 24 hours .
All species of bacteria isolated were purified by frequent subculturing so that they contain single type of colonies , Purified , cultures of the different isolates were subjected to a series of identification procedures based on microscopical examination of the Gram stained films, cultural characteristics on selective and differentail culture media and biochemical reactions .
On the basis of the results of these identification procedures several species were isolated from different patients which include seven species and thes were : Streptococcus pyogenes , sreptococcus pneumoniae , staph.
aureus, staphylococcus epidermides , staphylococcus intermedius , Haemephilus influenzae and Haemophilus parainfluenzae All bacterial isolates were tested for sensitivity against a number of antibiotics used in treatment of tonsilitis in Khartoum state hospitals by using disc diffusion method.
The results showed that the Gram positive isloates(streptococcus & staphyococcus) were sensitive to cephalosporins, ciprofloxacin chloramphenicol, erythromycin and vancomycin , there is moderate sensitivity to gentamycin and penicillin (60%).
There is complete resistance against Ampicillin (100%).
Grams negative Isolates ( Haemophilus ) were sesitive to cephalosporin and cholramphenicol but completely resistant to cirprofloxacin, gentamycin and ampicillin 100% In conclusion strept.
pyogenes was the dominant species in this study and Haemophilius parainfluenzae was obtained from only one patient .
Also in this study we observed that children were more afflicted and so Female.
