Dental treatment needs and demands among children attending the clinic of paedodontics, college of dentistry

Dental treatment needs and demands were assessed among children attending clinic of Paedodontics, College of Dentistry University of Baghdad, for the first time.

The dmft/ DMFT, CPITN induces and Garcia-Godoy classification were applied for the diagnosis of dental caries, periodontal health condition and traumatic dental injuries respectively.

Tooth- ache and check-up formed the most frequent demand, followed by aesthetic problems.

Concerning treatment, one surface restoration was needed in 88% of children.

While 74% needed two or more surface restoration and 35% needed tooth extraction.

Children with traumatized teeth formed 35% of the total children examined.

Treatment was not needed in 13 % of injured children.

Results revealed a condition of unmet needs and a lack of dental demand of Iraqi children
